Why support groups for carers of people with a disability?
Our Carers NSW experience working with, and advocating for, carers has informed us that support groups are highly valued by carers as a source of emotional support and practical help from peers. Carer support groups have been found to facilitate and build community connections while growing life long friendships between group participants.
Carers within groups often exchange tips and advice on how to deal with varying situations including sharing knowledge of local services. Carer support groups can be a valuable source of information to people new to the caring role.
